Presented by Phil Nuss, V.P.- Engineering

Presenter and Gulf Section Chairman - Mr. Phil Nuss, Vice President of Engineering & Commercial Programs for Trinity Yachts and Trinity Offshore

Trinity Yachts, famous for its prominence in the Luxury Yacht Business, was the site for the Gulf Section’s July 7th tour and presentation by Trinity Yachts Vice President of Engineering and Gulf Section Chairman, Phil Nuss. The 70 members and guests in attendance were given provided with an opportunity to tour the facility and the six super yachts currently under construction. The tour included the 200,000 square feet of fabrication area and 84,000 square feet of outfitting area, all under roof.
SNAME Gulf Section members were given permission to board Hull No. 027, a 180’ Tri-deck Motoryacht currently awaiting launch in late 2004. Hull No. 027, with a Steel Hull and Aluminum Superstructure, is outfitted with Caterpillar 3512 B engines and an elevator covering a three-deck atrium. The members visited the four aluminum tri-deck motoryachts that were currently under construction. Section members witnessed first hand how the design flows out of the office, through production, all the way to a finished product. delivered Hull No. 029, a 157 ft. Trideck Motoryacht. The group was allowed to walk through the finished multi-million dollar yacht, with glimmering paint, exquisite wood cabinetry, and arrangements fit for a king.

For those unfamiliar with Trinity Yachts, LLC, located in the heart of New Orleans the yard has gained recognition as one of the world's elite builders of custom super yachts in the United States. Trinity has an established history dating back to early 1900’s building PT boats on the Industrial Canal. Since the yard’s purchase from Friede Goldman Halter, Trinity Yachts has delivered over 25 yachts in excess of 100 feet. All Trinity Yachts meet the steel and aluminum construction standards of international ships, but cater to the demanding standards of world-class super yacht owners.

Housed on 38 acres of waterfront property, Trinity Yachts has Naval Architects and Marine Engineers who design, engineer, construct and deliver true custom yachts to specific customer requirements, all at one facility, year round.
At the presentation following the tour, Phil Nuss and Trinity Vice President Billy Smith explained how the changing market in the yacht industry has affected the average size of their yachts. When Trinity began building yachts at the turn of the millennium, a large U.S-built yacht was 142’ long. Today’s Trinity super yachts are nearly 200’ in length, 600+ tons, and towering to the top of the construction bays. Mr. Smith elaborated on Trinity Yachts’ current $1.4-million expansion plan that will add one additional 250’ fabrication bay. This will further expand Trinity’s capabilities as a super yacht builder. Mr. Nuss gave onlookers the first glance at Trinity’s new venture, Trinity Offshore. This will allow Trinity’s huge facility to expand and compete within the ever-expanding commercial/military vessel market.
The section would like to thank Mr. Phil Nuss, Billy Smith and Trinity Yachts for the opportunity to tour their yard.
