Section On April 22, 2004, Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers, in conjunction with the American Society of Naval Engineers, hosted the Central Gulf Coast meeting highlighting the presentation of the senior class of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of New Orleans. The meeting was held at the Lindy C. Boggs International Conference Center, UNO’s Research and Technology Park, adjacent to the UNO’s Lakefront Campus, New Orleans, Louisiana. Over eighty SNAME and ASNE members, UNO students and guests gathered to honor the presenters with praise, lots of comments and questions, and beautiful awards for their outstanding efforts. The Section was also accompanied by Dr. Trahan, UNO Dean of Engineering, who praised the UNO NA&ME program and its explosive growth in the area under the direction of Dr. Bahadir Inozu, Chairman of the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. a high speed, trimaran passenger ferry intended to service the Alaskan Marine Highway. The vessel incorporated aircraft style accommodation spaces with sleek styling. The trimaran contained gas turbines coupled to waterjets to allow for a cruising speed of 55 knots, thus enabling a traditional 13-hour trip to be performed in fewer than four hours. The team utilized animated 3D videos that enabled the audience to fly through the bridge, passenger seating, and surrounding areas.
