Professional Engineer Review Course (PERC)

NAME P.E. Candidates:

All those members planning to take the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Principles and Practice examination on April 11, 2003 should now be planning for their preparation. Experience has shown that it takes between two and three months of active preparation to become confidently ready to sit for the exam. The examination is objective in form, having 80 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 8 hours, 40 in the 4-hour morning session and 40 more in the 4-hour afternoon session. You should already be making application to your state board. Filing deadlines in some states are almost at hand.

If you haven't already done so, you should go online to the NCEES web site at www.ncees.org to find contact information for your board. You should also go to the SNAME web site, www.sname.org/LBSurvey.doc to find out the latest we know about deadlines for filing in your state, or a neighboring state (and a contact phone number). The recommended reference materials and examination specifications can be found at www.snamelearning.org/learn/index.cfm. This will also take you to the SNAMeLearning page, where you can download and take a tour of the site and the P.E. Review Course. There are eleven (11) Units in the course this year, giving expanded coverage to the naval architecture subject areas.

The SNAME Professional Engineer Review Course (PERC) will begin on January 6th, 2003 and extend until March 26th for the last online session, giving another 2-1/2 weeks for final study and last minute emails with the instructors before the exam date. The cost of the PERC is $500 for members and $650 for non-members and your sign-up and registration for the course can be arranged online at www.snamelearning.org/learn/StudentInstructions.cfm.
