Expansion
of Member Services - Volunteers Needed
We
are beginning to expand members services pertaining to job search and
placement. Initially this will be pertaining to student members transitioning
into the maritime field. To assist with this initiative we're looking
for volunteers to help with providing constructive feedback to student
members on their resumes. The time commitment is expected to be no more
than one hour per month. If you have some expertise in this area and
are interested in assisting our younger members as they start new careers,
please contact either:
Paul Roden (SNAME Membership Chair - proden@elcbalt.uscg.mil)
or
Edith Nowak (SNAME Sections Manager - enowak@sname.org).

Chairman Elect Seminar at Saddlebrook
On June 3rd and June 4th,
SNAME held its annual Chairmen/Vice Chairmen-Elect Seminar, at Saddlebrook

are invited to the Seminar in preparation for their upcoming term as Section
officers, and are given the opportunity to meet and interact with fellow officers
who will govern their Sections during the same fiscal year, as well as Regional
Vice Presidents and SNAME’s President who will be in office in the same
timeframe.

Plywood
Regatta - Southeast Section Sponsors Team

This
year's Plywood Regatta, organized by the Marine Industries Association
of South Florida and held on Fort Lauderdale Beach on April 12th, was
a resounding success with participation of over 36-teams. This was the
first time in the 9-year history of the competition that the SNAME
Southeast Section sponsored a team. Our SNAME team was
made up of 5 eighth grade students from Bair
Middle School of Sunrise, Florida; also a first-time
entry in the competition. Despite the lack of experience with this competition,
the Bair team placed second in their age group. Click

Introducing
the new SNAME Student Section at the Apprentice School
at Northrop Grumman Newport News
SNAME
will soon have a new Student Section at the Apprentice School at Northrop Grumman
Newport News (NGNN) pending approval of the Bylaws, to be presented to the Sections
and Executive Committee in August. Leadership from NGNN and the Hampton Roads
Section provided the catalyst for this new section. The launch of the new Student
Section sends a signal to the Navy, to entering students, and to the maritime
community at large that SNAME intends to maintain a high standard of competence
for its student members and future leaders. Read
more....
As part
of this effort a PowerPoint presentation defining the organization of SNAME,
opportunities offered to student members, and benefits of membership was delivered
to 110 students in April and resulted in 23 new student members, with expectations
that more will join. A copy of this PowerPoint presentation is attached (click
here). Please take time to look at it, as an example of how you too can
be active in the recruiting process.
