Re-Activation of Ad Hoc Panel #8 on
Safety of Passenger Ships

This Ad Hoc Panel was first formed in 1999, prior to the start of the IMO Large Passenger Ship initiative, but after a short burst of interest, it went dormant.

RADM Gordon Piché USCG (Ret.) and Paul Cojeen accepted the challenge to revitalize the panel, in an area that is of high importance to SNAME and its members. To assist this effort, the Society has assembled a team to review the safety aspects of passenger vessels. This panel will explore several safety aspects including damaged stability, lifesaving systems, evacuations, and safety and risk assessments.

We invite all members to participate in this panel.

The IDS is not just new ships and aircraft, but an integrated, performance-based approach to upgrading existing assets while transitioning to newer, more capable platforms, with improved systems for Command, Control, Communications and Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (C4ISR), and innovative logistics support.
