IMTEC 2003
An excerpt from
Joe Cuneo's letter to appear in the April 2002 issue of Marine Technology
" ..... In keeping
with the initiative to strengthen our international presence the annual meeting
scheduled for 2003 in San Francisco has been totally transformed to a new format,
which we hope will set a precedent for future periodic international meetings.
SNAME will host the first International Marine Technical Exposition and Conference
(IMTEC). This conference will have a theme of "Marine Industry Challenges in
the New Global Environment" and it will include participation by a substantial
number of our counterpart overseas technical societies. Many of these societies
have been invited to join with us in sponsoring and participating in this first
international technical forum with a focus on timely issues which will affect
the future of design, construction and operation for all manner of marine craft
and structures throughout the world.....
It will be a multi-track
endeavor unlike anything we have ever produced in our 109-year history. SNAME's
February NewsLetter, available on our website, contained a preliminary announcement
providing more details. As the conference is still a "work in progress" you
will be hearing, reading and seeing more about it in the months to come. It
is your Executive Committee's hope and belief that this initiative will be a
major milestone in the enhancement of SNAME's value to you, our membership,
whether your professional interests are in large ship design, construction or
operation, offshore structures, port and cargo handling, naval vessels, or the
small craft industry...."

President, SNAME

NEW
- SNAMeWebMentor Program
SNAME Headquarters
is forming a team comprised of SNAME members who are currently active
and knowledgeable web site liaisons and are willing to help our new web
liaisons get on-line.
Here's how it will
work: When a newly appointed web liaison needs help with ftp software,
uploading/downloading files, creating new pages, etc., I would refer him/her
to a SNAME mentor. Of course, I would contact the mentor first
to alert him/her of the upcoming task and confirm availability of your
time.
This mentoring program
has 2 objectives:
1. to provide our
members the opportunity to help other members
2. to encourage Sections, Committees, and Panels to join the rest of us
on the SNAME web site.
If you are interested
in joining the SNAMeWebMentor
team, please contact me for
more information.
