Eight Topical Luncheons planned for the 35th Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), 5 - 8 May, at Reliant Center in Houston,
Texas, will focus on key issues and emerging world regions.
The Topical Luncheons, scheduled
for Monday and Wednesday, include presentations and discussions about current
and future offshore developments, industry challenges, best practices, new concepts,
case studies, and future opportunities.

SNAME Member Opportunity
to Participate in Maritime Security Meetings
The USCG is holding seven
public meetings to discuss requirements for security measures for vessels and
facilities. Discussions will aid in determining types of vessels and facilities
that pose a risk, in identifying measures to deter incidents, in aligning domestic
maritime security requirements with the International Ship and Port Facility
Security (ISPS) Code and recent amendments to SOLAS, and Section 102 (Port Security)
of the recently enacted Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 (MTSA).
Individuals and organizations may attend the meetings and submit comments. The
public meetings will be held on January 27 in New Orleans; January 30 in Cleveland;
January 31 in St. Louis; February 3 in Seattle: February 5 in Los Angeles-Long
Beach; February 7 in Jacksonville: February 11 in New York. Comments and related
material must be received by February 28, 2003.

Endowed Chair Position at UNO
Endowed Chair Position
in Engineering - The College of Engineering at the University of New
Orleans is seeking candidates for a recently established endowed chair in Engineering
Manufacturing and Process Improvement. Funding for this chair has been provided
by Northrop Grumman Ship Systems (NGSS) Avondale Operations The successful candidate will be
expected to lead in the development of an advanced research and graduate program
with emphasis on modern manufacturing processes such as lean manufacturing,
produciblity, process improvement and production process flow which can be related
to the shipbuilding industry. The successful candidate is expected to establish and maintain
a large funded research program. The chair will work closely with NGSS-Avondale
Operations and other local industry. The candidate's resume should demonstrate
strengths in these areas. Other areas that may be considered are hydrodynamics,
ship signatures, integrated power systems, and lean six sigma applications. The candidate
must be a U.S. citizen.
