SNAME Fellow to receive Dr. Daniel Savitsky, Professor Emeritus at Stevens Institute of Technology and a Life Fellow of SNAME, has been awarded the Royal Institution of Naval Architects’ 2007 Small Craft Group Medal, in recognition of his significant contribution over many years to the development of high speed vessel design, through his research and papers. Most of these papers have been published by SNAME, among them "On the Seakeeping of Planing Hulls" in 1966, "Procedures for Hydrodynamic Evaluation of Planing Hulls in Smooth and Rough Water" which he co-authored with P. W. Brown in 1976, "Seakeeping Predictions for U.S. Coast Guard Hard Chine Patrol Boats," co-authored with J. A. White in 1988, "On the Subject of High-Speed Monohulls" in 2003, and "Inclusion of Whisker Spray Drag in Performance Prediction Method for High-Speed Planing Hulls" with M. DeLorme and R. Datla in 2007. Dr. Savitsky was twice a winner of SNAME's Vice Admiral E. L. Cochrane Award, and was the recipient of the Davidson Medal in 1996. |
