Program Criteria For
NAVAL ARCHITECTURE and MARINE ENGINEERING Programs

1. Applicability.

These program criteria apply to engineering programs named naval architecture and/or marine engineering.


2. Professional Component. (Amplifies Criterion 4)

a. Students in advanced courses should demonstrate the ability to apply probability and statistical methods to naval architecture and marine engineering problems.

b. Graduates should have a basic knowledge of fluid mechanics, dynamics, structural mechanics, materials properties, hydrostatics, and energy/propulsion systems in the context of marine vehicles.

c. Graduates should be familiar with instrumentation appropriate to naval architecture and/or marine engineering including experiment design, data collection, analysis, and formal report writing..

d. The laboratory experience should provide familiarity with instrumentation appropriate to naval architecture and/or marine engineering. It should emphasize experiment design, data collection, analysis, and formal report writing.


3. Faculty. (Amplifies Criterion 5)

Program faculty must sufficient curricular and administrative control to accomplish the program objectives.
