ABSTRACT: MOBILE LANDING PLATFORM VEHICLE TRANSFER AT-SEA TEST
This presentation will summarize the PMS385 Vehicle Transfer At-Sea Test which demonstrated the feasibility of using a dynamic positioning system and a motion compensating ramp to transfer Marine Corps and Army combat and logistics vehicles between the ships at sea. This first ever test event was conducted in a crawl, walk, run fashion both pierside and at-sea in conditions through sea state 3. Test preparations will also be presented which included computer simulations, scaled physical models on motion tables, multiple planning conferences, and team training for both ship crews, DP operators and ramp operators.
SPEAKER BIO: ARTHUR RAUSCH
Arthur Rausch is employed at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division and is currently assigned to the Program Executive Office Ships, Strategic and Theater Sealift Program (PMS385) as the Principle Assistant Program Manager for Research and Development, Small Business Innovative Research, and Future Platforms. He has over 36 years experience in R&D of Seabasing and Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore systems including management of the Mobile Landing Platform Vehicle Transfer At-Sea Test and the shipboard crane Pendulation Control System.
