A Letter from the Chair...
Hello, my name is Vanna Keller and on behalf of the entire University of Hawaii SNAME Student Section I'd like to extend a warm Aloha!
The University of Hawaii SNAME Student Section was first established in 1973. In fall of 2009, under the guidance of Professor Cengiz Ertekin, The Ocean and Resources Engineering Program, the SNAME Southwest Section and SNAME National the UH Student Section was revitalized and without a doubt is off to a running start.
UH is a little different from other student sections in that we concentrate heavily on Ocean Engineering and consist entirely of graduate students. Here,we strive everyday to advance knowledge in everything from coastal processes to offshore structures. This is a place where research interests can take you all the way to the bottom of the ocean on an ROV mission or 300 ft above sea level to the top of an offshore wind turbine.
The UH SNAME Student Section strives to uphold the mission of SNAME National. This includes promoting the exchange of information as well as supporting education and enhancing the professional status of its members. The enthusiasm of all the students in the Department of Ocean and Resources Engineering is truly contagious and we look forward to all the great things students will accomplish both during their graduate experience here and as they enter Industry in the coming years.
As students we realize we are lucky and blessed to be pursuing higher education in such a beautiful place. Hawaii's isolation provides a unique resource and ocean-classroom environment that simply cannot be compared to. Here, we take a lot of pride in the Aloha spirit and our greatest joy is sharing our experiences and achievements with you. This microsite is a big part of that. Here you will find upcoming events as well as pictures and videos from past SNAME activities. We hope you will take this opportunity to get to know our student members partake in our section initiatives.
Again, Welcome to Hawaii and in true Hawaiian spirit, come in... take your shoes off... and get caught up in the Aloha spirit.
