DECK LIFE LINES

I would like to know how we can exactly speel out - define: DECK LIFE LINES, these are 2 lines (on port and starboard side) mounted for safety on deck (on sirious weather), on which all of the crew members can easealy mount their life lines. It is basicaly one long line on one side of the sailboat (from aft to bow). I hope you can understand what i mean.
