SNAME Technical Meeting
Guido Perla & Chris Chuhran will present
Design and Construction of the R/V Neil Armstrong
Guido Perla and Chris Chuhran will present the Ocean Class AGOR design, with insight into
vessel arrangements, production, performance, and science mission capability. The R/V Neil
Armstrong was recently launched at Dakota Creek Industries (the R/V Sally Ride soon to
follow). These oceanographic research vessels will be operated under the organization of
UNOLS (University—National Oceanographic Laboratory System), and are part of the effort
to replace an aging fleet.
As the Chairman of Guido Perla & Associates (GPA), and a University of Michigan graduate
with more than 40 years in the shipbuilding industry, Guido Perla brings unique insight into
the development of the AGOR project.
Chris Chuhran has over 20 years of experience in Marine Engineering, and holds degrees
from both the Naval Postgraduate School and the University of Washington.
