2011 Annual Meeting & Expo Wrapup

SNAME President Comstock declares, "By all accounts, the 2011 SNAME Annual Meeting & Expo and Ship Production Symposium was a resounding success" (See press release).

The Hyatt Regency Houston worked well as the new venue for SNAME’s largest annual event. Attendance reached last year’s level with nearly 1,000 SNAME members and non-members, including more than 210 students! Highlights of the event included:

• Over 60 technical paper presentations, special panel sessions, and timely technical and research sessions.

• Full student program featuring a design competition; student papers track; job, scholarship and graduate school fair; student congress and elections; and Saturday student program in Houston.
  

• Prestigious awards and medals including presentations of the following:

- William H. Webb Medal to Jacques B. Hadler,
- Blakely Smith Medal to Charles N. Springett,
- Vice Admiral "Jerry" Land Medal to Stephen M. Payne,
- David W. Taylor Medal to Armin W. Troesch.

• Annual Meeting Banquet keynote address by Stephen M. Carmel, Senior Vice President, Maersk Line, Limited

• The 3rd Annual SNAME Cup Sailing Regatta (read post press release), SNAME Golf Tournament (read post press release) and new Footy Yacht Competition netted nearly $4,500 in scholarship funds
  
  
• Peter G. Noble elected as the next President of the Society - a three-year term, the first year to be served as President Elect on January 1, 2012 and President on January 1, 2013.
