Subject: SNAME: A message from the Executive Director of SNAME

Fellow Members

In the midst of the tragedy of September 11th, the Society's

computer systems were infected by the Win32/Nimda.A.Worm

virus as of Tuesday, September 18th.  The effect has been a

total shut down of our email and databases at SNAME

Headquarters in Jersey City.  New anti-viral software only

became available to us on Thursday, September 20th, and we

have been working around the clock with experts to rid the

servers of this most insidious virus to date.

We hope to be back in full operation by tomorrow, Tuesday,

September 25th, but in the meantime our phones are working,

so please call or FAX us at 201-798-4800,

(toll free) 800-798-2188, or (FAX) 201-798-4975 to speak

to the staff and to register for SNAME's Annual Meeting

in Orlando, FL, October 24-27, 2001.

We understand your concerns, and appreciate your patience

in light of circumstances which are both extremely

frustrating to us and beyond our control.

Philip B. Kimball

Executive Director
