Press Release - On May 10, 2008, The Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) will celebrate the 115th anniversary of the official adoption of the Articles of Incorporation, which formed the Society. Led by marine industry giants such as William H. Webb, Francis T. Bowles, David W. Taylor and Clement Griscom, SNAME’s original mission, to “advance the state of the art; to afford facilities for the exchange of information and ideas; to disseminate the results of research, experience and information among the members; to encourage and sponsor such research; to cooperate with educational institutions; and to promote the professional integrity and status of the members”, remains as true today as in 1893. SNAME, Maritime Reporter Collaborate on 115th Anniversary Edition

In 2008 SNAME will celebrate 115 years of advancing the art, science and practice of naval architecture, shipbuilding and marine engineering. SNAME will celebrate the milestone all year long, culminating in the publication of special “SNAME Turns 115” issue– produced by Maritime Reporter & Engineering News – and dedicated to SNAME members and the marine industry.

SNAME member participation is welcome, and in fact crucial to the success of this project. Some ways in which you can participate:

• Send us your historical photographs: scanned and transmitted electronically (300 dpi/.jpg preferable). If sending hard copies, please send duplicates, as original material will not be returned. If sending photos, please provide as much detail, including names of those pictured, as possible.
• SNAME and Your Career: Let us know how SNAME membership has helped your career.
• Special memories of SNAME: If you have an interesting, humorous or insightful story or antidote, please share it in this historical publication.
